River Bartosik-Murray
Tiles, 2024
Watercolor on paper
24 × 18 inches
Framed

I am interested in the way reflections distort reality and the way that they can create a new and more interesting reality. This watercolor painting is created based on a photo I took of a man's reflection in the tiles of a pizza place. I was entranced by the swirling reflections in the tiles that created a surreal world amongst the mundane. Through reflection, light, and distortion, the viewer is both seeing banality and then seeing beyond.
