Dragon Vase

Dragon Vase, 2024
Ceramics
4.5 x 4 x 9 inches
This vase is inspired by Chinese pottery, often represented with the colors white and blue. I wanted to connect more with my culture and appreciate the beautiful art they have created. I first started this vase by layering coils of clay on top of each other, pinching them together to create a strong wall. Through this project I was able to learn about the process of creating symmetrical clay pieces by hand. The slowest and most challenging part of this piece was sculpting the handles, because I had to make sure the body of the vase was not too dry, or else the handles wouldn’t attach well. In addition, because of how small the handles were, it was nerve wrecking to sculpt while trying not to break them due to how fragile they were.
