NEW YORK, NY – May 14, 2026 – Free Arts NYC, a leading nonprofit dedicated to empowering underserved youth through art and mentoring, announced it has received a $50,000 grant from the Genesis Inspiration Foundation. This significant investment will directly support Free Arts NYC’s comprehensive programming, helping youth ages 6-23 in under-resourced communities develop the creativity, confidence, and skills necessary for long-term success.

As we approach our 30th anniversary in 2027, we’re evolving to prepare more young people for a creative economy that doesn’t look like anything that came before it. We’re deeply grateful for this $50,000 investment from the Genesis Inspiration Foundation, and we’re proud to have them as a partner as we build for the next 30 years.”
Rooted in the heart of NYC’s vibrant creative community, Free Arts NYC acts as an essential bridge to level the playing field for the next generation. Students enter programs through more than 30 strategic partnerships held with schools, community centers, and the NYC Department of Homeless Services across all five boroughs. By lowering structural barriers and providing robust 1:1 mentorship networks, Free Arts NYC turns artistic passion into concrete educational and professional advancement.
DRIVING DIRECT IMPACT IN NEW YORK CITY
Racial Equity: While persons of color represent 68% of NYC's total population, they account for only 34% of the creative workforce. Free Arts NYC partners with creative companies to engineer paid internships that give high school and college students the opportunity to transform their creativity into viable career paths.
Community Resources: Reductions in city arts funding fall disproportionately on lower-income neighborhoods. Free Arts NYC actively prioritizes equity by completely covering transportation costs and providing students with technology, equipment, meals, art supplies, and additional material stipends.
Educational Equity: Eighty percent of NYCDOE schools rely entirely on cultural organizations like Free Arts NYC to provide quality arts programs. The organization prioritizes individualized attention through 1:1 mentorship, designed to support students' precise goals and enrich their academic experiences.
“Genesis Inspiration Foundation is dedicated to empowering young people to experience an education through the arts. We are grateful to work with nonprofit partners like Free Arts NYC to increase accessibility, spark imagination, and bring the transformative power of the arts to more children across the country.”
The Genesis Inspiration Foundation has been a transformative force in youth arts since its inception in 2018, awarding over $16 million in grants nationwide to museums, schools, and community organizations. This partnership reinforces a shared commitment to improving educational outcomes and introducing children to a new world of possibilities through sustained artistic expression.
