Free Arts NYC provides under-served children and families with a unique combination of educational arts and mentoring programs that help them to foster the self-confidence and resiliency needed to realize their fullest potential.

Weekly Mentor Program

Build positive, trusting relationships with children as you guide them to learn new ways of communication and self-expression through art-making.

 

Program Description: Small groups of children pair with teams of volunteers throughout the academic year. Using different artistic media each week, children learn to express themselves creatively, build self-confidence and form positive, trusting relationships with their mentors.

Time Commitment: 2.5 hours on a weekday afternoon or evening, for 1 academic year (25 weeks) or 1 semester (12 weeks).

Participants: 10-12 children, ages 6-8, 8-10 or 11-13

Volunteer Ratio: 1 volunteer : 2-3 children

Locations: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx


REQUIREMENTS: Basic and supplemental application (includes a criminal background check), interview with a Free Arts staff member, 3-hour program training and 1.5 hour curriculum review.
