Benefits of Arts and Mentoring
Mentoring works. Just ask anyone who’s been one – or anyone who’s had one. Studies have shown that mentoring and creative arts can have a profound impact on young people: - Mentored youth are more likely to go to college, have fewer unexcused absences, moderately higher GPA’s, and better attitudes toward school compared to their peers.
- Sustained connection with an adult in a mentorship position improves young people’s attitude toward school, behavior, and decreases drug and alcohol use.
- Students involved in the arts have higher math, verbal, and composite SAT scores than their classmates.
- Art can help young people to develop self-sufficiency and improves self-esteem.
