Steps to Becoming a Volunteer
Free Arts NYC volunteer art mentors provide positive role models and create safe environments where at-risk children can experience art and have fun.
As a Free Arts volunteer, you can expect to laugh, expect to be fulfilled, and expect to make a real difference in the lives of underprivileged children and families.
To Become a Free Arts Volunteer:
- Sign up for one of our New Volunteer Orientations to determine which of our core programs best suit your talents and schedule. Check the Calendar for the next scheduled orientation. If you have any questions, please call us at 212.974.9092 or e-mail our Volunteer coordinator Katie Key at katie@freeartsnyc.org.
- After attending an orientation, you can then fill out a background check form.
- Once you’ve passed the background check, you’ll be ready to volunteer for single day events such as Free Arts Days and Cultural Enrichment opportunities.
For longer mentoring commitments, you can volunteer in the Weekly Mentor Program or PACT. For these programs volunteers must also:
- Fill out an application.
- Provide two confidential references (other than family members)
- Attend a three-hour training session
- Complete screening interview with Program Manager
- Attend curriculum review meeting
