Cultural Enrichment
Children from the Excellence Charter School of Bedford Stuyvesant recently attended a concert by the New York Symphonic Ensemble, accompanied by their parents. The school’s music teacher commented that: “Our scholars were still talking about the experience the next day.” Children and parents alike noted that this was a terrific experience to enjoy as a family. One student, Elias, said: “I liked the instruments, the flute, the tympanis, and the double bass. I was so excited!” Through Cultural Enrichment opportunities, children and families are provided the opportunity to visit museums, attend performances of theatre, music, and dance and participate in activities outside of their daily experiences and other Free Arts NYC programs. In this way, the Cultural Enrichment opportunities complements our other core services, as children and parents are able to use their experiences at museums and performances to enhance their own artistic creations during Weekly Mentor, Free Arts Day, or PACT programs.
Recent field trips included the following: - A Martha Graham dance performance
- The Danny Simmons’ studio/gallery
- The Maurice Sendak exhibit at the Jewish Museum
- The South Street Seaport Museum
- The Culture Project
- The New Victory Theatre
- A violin concert at Merkin Hall
- The International Film Festival at the Brooklyn Museum
- El Museo del Barrio
